Dormitorium: An Exhibition of Film Decors by the Brothers Quay

DORMITORIUM: A very special exhibit of the Quays original handmade and highly detailed sets used in their animated works.

Presented by The Coolidge Corner Theatre, The DORMITORIUM exhibition is organized and originated by the University of the Arts, Philadelphia.

The exhibit will be hosted from May 1st through May 21st, at The Fourth Wall Project, 132 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215.

Gallery Hours are 1pm-7pm, Monday-Saturday.

The extraordinary Quay Brothers are two of the world’s most original filmmakers. Influenced by European writers, composers, and animators - particularly Bruno Schulz, Robert Walser, Kafka, Ladislaw Starewicz, Jan Švankmajer, Janáček, and Stravinsky - the Quays display a passion for detail, a breathtaking command of color and texture, and an uncanny use of focus and camera movement. Filmmaker Terry Gilliam deemed their classic film STREET OF CROCODILES, “one of the ten best animated films of all time”.

Their exquisite body of work includes many stop-action animation shorts, live action feature films, commercials, music videos, an award-winning collaboration with composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, dance films, set designs for theater and opera and an animated dream sequence for Julie Taymor’s film FRIDA. They are currently in production on THE MASK, a film based on the short story by Stanislaw Lem.

This exhibition is in conjunction with the Quay Brothers being awarded the Sixth Annual Coolidge Award.

Dormitorium coincides with the Quay Brothers receiving the Coolidge Award. The awards ceremony will be held at Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St, Brookline | May 6 @ 8 pm; | Tickets for the Awards Ceremony are available directly from the Coolidge.

A special reception with the Quay Brothers in attendance for press and Coolidge Award Event Gold Ticket holders will be held on Tues, May 5 from 7:30 until 9:30 pm at Fourth Wall Project.

Independent Fabrication Debuts Fresh Rides

Independent Fabrication began building bicycles in 1995 and continues to combine fine American Craftsmanship with state of the art materials and finishing techniques to create some of the world's most sought after bicycles.

The show will consist of some new concept bicycles, some recent incarnations of 2009 models, and some famous award winning bicycles from their archives. This will be a rare opportunity for the public to view these bicycles in person. The show will also serve to release the latest version of our record album formatted 2009 product catalog, many of which will be on hand.
